Looking for Korean stew in Telok Ayer? At CheongDamChae, we make jjigae (Korean stew) the way small back-alley restaurants in Korea do: plain and honest, nothing flashy. If you're after something special or showy, we might not be your place. If you miss simple, home-style Korean food, you'll feel right at home.

CheongDamChae in Telok Ayer cooks sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew), doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and kimchi jjigae one by one, with care, each in its own ttukbaegi (Korean earthenware pot).

What do the stews taste like?

We don't push the seasoning or pile things on top to make them stand out. Sundubu tastes like sundubu, doenjang tastes like doenjang. Think of the stew you'd order at the little place down the street back in Korea.

Should I expect something special?

If you want something new and fancy, we may not be a match. But if you're after a clean, simple bowl you could happily eat every week, a weekday lunch that tastes like home, drop by anytime.

What else is on the menu?

We also do naengsam (pork belly), grilled on a cast-iron plate. Read more about our naengsam
